Breaking News: June 3, 2008
The Sawtooth National Forest expects to have the Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) ready about July 1, 2008. These maps will reflect the three Ranger District Decisions which have been upheld through the NEPA process. The date the Decision takes effect is expected to be June 13, with enforcement beginning when the maps become available.
The next step in continuing travel planning will be to examine so called "Spur Roads" that the Forest Service wants to revisit with the expectation that some of these will be closed and some "missed" routes re-opened. If this effort succeeds, the result will be a revised MVUM for the 2009 season.
MVTMA members and other interested parties can participate in this new round of planning.
It is up to us to identify our priorities for routes to be considered for inclusion and also to look at those spur roads that may have less value for recreation and communicate this information to the Forest Service District Rangers. Please contact an officer or board member of MVTMA for more details and perhaps to volunteer to review routes.
